How to manage notifications
What the system has told you, and how to choose what you keep being told — including the alerts that arrive nowhere else.
What you will learn
- Where to read your alerts
- Which things only ever arrive here
- How to change what you receive
Notifications has two tabs: Feed, what the system has told you, and Preferences, what you want to keep being told.
What arrives here
- You were enrolled on a class group.
- New work was set — an assignment or a quiz.
- Your work was graded, with the score.
- An examination was scheduled, or its result published.
- A manager or guardian was linked to your account. This one arrives nowhere else at all — there is no screen that lists it afterwards.
Step 1. Click Notifications in the left-hand menu.
Step 2. Read the Feed. Tick Unread only to see just what is new.
Step 3. Click Mark read on one, or Mark all read to clear the count.
Step 4. Open Preferences to turn individual kinds of alert on or off.
Read before you clear
Marking everything read is quick, and it is how people miss the one alert that mattered. Being linked to a manager or guardian is announced here once and never repeated.
What you should see
The unread count in the top bar goes down, and you have not missed anything.
Helpful tips
- If you are getting too many alerts, turn some off in Preferences rather than ignoring the lot.
